This course aims to develop students’ foundational skills in theoretical literary analysis through the study of American poetry from an ecocritical perspective. Students will prepare and deliver presentations based on assigned readings, participate in class discussions, and engage in question-and-answer sessions. These activities are designed to strengthen critical thinking and to establish the basic skills necessary for academic report writing.
This course focuses on the reading of American poetry and essays, with particular attention to texts that can be considered works of environmental literature. Students will explore these texts while acquiring key concepts and methods in ecocritical theory. The course will be organized into three main components: instructor lectures, student presentations, and class-wide discussions. Presenters will be required to prepare and distribute summaries of the assigned readings. In order to ensure thorough preparation of the English texts, several unannounced quizzes will be administered during the semester.
