備考/ NotesNotes |
The objectives of this course are: (1) to describe the methods and means of critically interpreting the cultural/literary/narrative content of the graphic novel, (2) to consider the medium of comics as a form of literary text, and (3) to guide the student through the basics of writing a coherent critical analysis.
In the first semester of this course, the students will be introduced to the basics of visual literacy and the narratology of graphic texts. By focusing on the structure and visual language in Will Eisner’s A Contract with God (1978) and Art Spiegelman’s Maus (1980), this course will allow the students an opportunity to analyze and critique the American graphic novel.
