Notes

【Course Objectives】

Through this course, students will acquire a solid grasp of the role satire has in British literature. They will be able to differentiate the various types of satire and their functions in literature.

【Course Contents】

In the first semester, the novel by George Orwell, "1984" will be studied as well as another by David Lodge, "Deaf Sentence".
In the second semester, "Therapy" by David Lodge as well as extracts of the T.V series, " Monty Python."

Each group gives a presentation about their chosen topic in relation to the novel,1984

Focus on the characters

Group work, students determine what type of satire the novel is and give explanation to their answers.

Students write a paper pertaining to what they have learned so far, making connections, quoting and referring to what has been studied in class.

In the class, students will be actively asked question so a proactive attitude is expected

Students are required to read the material handed in by the teacher at every class (approximately 2 hour per class)
Students are also required to complete the homework assigned in class (approximately 2 hour per class)
