The purpose is to facilitate language learning -- listening, speaking, reading, writing -- through various class activities. The socio-historical background of each story will be explored to enrich the learning experience.
Mary Orr's play The Wisdom of Eve is about an ambitious young woman's strategies to climb the social ladder in the world of entertainment business. Agatha Christie's "The Adventure of the Clapham Cook" is concerned with the fictional, renowned detective Hercule Poirot's investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a cook. Students are expected to prepare the assigned reading, participate in class activities, write short comments, and give an oral presentation (2-5 minutes).
