Through a close reading of Raymond Carver's short stories, students in this course will improve their English skill to read literary texts accurately.
We will read Raymond Carver's short stories in this course. Students will translate a few pages in each class in order to improve their English reading skill. The main focus will be on improving the reading skill, with additional explanations of the interpretations and historical background of each work.
Students will also take two mini tests based on the texts read in class. At the end of the semester, students will take a final test based on texts which are not used in class.

アメリカ人作家レイモンド・カーヴァーの作品精読を通して、英語を正しく読む力を養う。
Through a close reading of Raymond Carver's short stories, students in this course will improve their English skill to read literary texts accurately.
レイモンド・カーヴァー（1938-88）の短編小説を精読する。クラス全体で訳読を行ない、毎回数頁を語学的に丹念に読んでいく。英文読解力の向上に主眼を置くが、必要に応じて作品解釈の紹介や歴史的背景等の補足説明も行なう。
また、授業内で読んだ英文を題材にした小テストを学期中に2回実施する。
学期末には、授業内では扱わなかった英文を題材にして、受講生の読解力を測る授業内最終テストを実施する。
We will read Raymond Carver's short stories in this course. Students will translate a few pages in each class in order to improve their English reading skill.
