Using an anthology of various English nation’s favourite poems compiled after recited on a long-running popular Radio programme as the course textbook, students will find out what kinds of poetry English people love and, through that, explore Western feelings and expressions of them and compare them with Japanese ideas, as well as their own personal ones, about human feelings. Students will also discover the most impressive poem for them among those in the anthology.
Students will read 1-2 pieces selected from an anthology of various English nation’s favourite poems broadcast on the popular BBC Radio 4 programme Poetry Please!, excluding those to be read in Seminar B2 in the autumn term. By doing so, they will further their understanding of how human feelings are portrayed in English poetry and, at the same time, consider their own ideas about human beings. Many poems featured in class are not widely known in Japan, so students are expected to read and interpret the words on the page on their own. Multiple students will be assigned to each poem, and each student will prepare handouts and present on their assigned poem. Students not presenting will use this information to engage in active debate regarding the work. Students can expect to present 3-5 times over the course of the term. The exact number is subject to change depending on the number of students in the course. Details will be provided in the course syllabus given on the first day of class.

これまでに授業などで読んだ英詩を再読しておく。毎回扱う詩を授業の前に熟読して準備し（各回約2時間）、授業の後には紹介された関連文献も参照して詩を再読し内容理解を深める（各回約2時間）。毎回Googleドライブにアップロードされる音声・画像・動画資料を授業の前後に視聴すると学習効果が高まる。

イギリスで人気のあるラジオ放送長寿番組で朗読されて人気を集めたさまざまな主題の国民愛唱詩を読んで、イギリス人の好む詩の特徴を探り、英米人とわれわれ日本人の間に、人間の感情を表現する方法に違いがあるかどうかを比較しつつ、自分にとって最も印象的な詩を見つけ出す。

BBCラジオ4の番組Poetry Please!で放送され、イギリス国民に愛唱されているさまざまな主題の詩を集めた詞華集から、秋学期の演習B2で扱わない詩を毎回1, 2篇選んで読み、人間の感情が詩の中でどのように描かれているかを探りながら、われわれ自身の感情のあり方についても考える。日本で紹介されていない詩も多く、毎回自力での格闘が必要とされる。一つの詩を必ず複数の担当者に予め当てて、配付資料を準備してそれぞれ発表してもらい、それを糸口にして参加者全員で活発な討論を行なう。学期中の発表担当回数は参加人数によって多少変わるが、一人3-5回程度の予定。最初の時間に詳しい授業計画表を配布。
