【Course Objectives】

At once a paradise and a purgatory, utopia and dystopia, the island holds a unique place within the imagination. In the first semester, this course will explore the imagined geography of the island by navigating through the watery world of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island (1883).

【Course Contents】

This course will follow the fantasy of Treasure Island through a variety of media and critical interpretations. Regular weekly readings will be accompanied by film, stage performance, and animation. Final projects will involve the composition of an academic research paper (800 words) and the delivery of an oral presentation based upon this research.
