The objective of this course is to develop research skills in English historical linguistics in order to write a graduation thesis.
In the first half of the semester, students will engage in group works in which they carry out research on various issues in English historical linguistics. We will have discussions on their research results. In the latter half of the semester, each student will carry out research on their own and make a presentation and write an essay. Through this process, they will acquire basic research skills in English historical linguistics.

Instructions for explorative learning will be given to students on “Canvas LMS” after they have completed course registration. About 2 hours of preparation and review are required for each class.

英語でリサーチを行う能力。
コンピュータ等、オンライン資料を使いながらリサーチを行うことが出来る機器。
卒論執筆を視野に入れ、英語学や英語史の観点から英語という言語について独自の問いを立て、リサーチに基づきこれに答えを出すことが出来る能力を身につけることを目標とする。
The objective of this course is to develop research skills in English historical linguistics in order to write a graduation thesis.
英語学や英語史の分野のリサーチをするに当たり有用なリサーチツールを使う練習をしながら、実際に様々なリサーチを行うことで、この分野の基礎知識やリサーチの方法を身につける。授業ではグループに分かれ、与えられたリサーチ課題に取り組み、その成果を発表し合ったり、それについてのディスカッションをしたりしながら、この分野の基礎知識やリサーチの基礎を身につける。学期末には各自が自ら定めたテーマについてリサーチを行い、その結果を発表し、これについて全員で議論を深める。学期末には発表に基づくレポートを作成し、レポート・論文の書き方の基礎も身につける。
