備考/ NotesNotes |
The purpose is to facilitate English learning - listening, reading, speaking, writing - through various class activities. Students are also encouraged to explore the background knowledge of each story.
Excerpts of Betty Smith's novel A Tree Grows in Brooklyn focus on the childhood and family relationships of a girl growing up in the 1910s Brooklyn. Doris Lessing's short story "The Old Chief Mshlanga" is a coming-of-age story set in colonial Zimbabwe. Its protagonist sympathised with a native tribe leader who was deprived of land and property unfairly. Students are required to prepare for the assigned reading, participate in class activities, and write a short comment at the end of each class. An oral presentation (at least two minutes) is also required.
