【Course Objectives】

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the major area of modern poetry, and to poetic surrealism in particular, and to provide the literary, historical, and cultural background to one of the twentieth century’s most recognized and controversial British poets - Dylan Thomas (1914-1953). Further course objectives include improvement in discussion skills, and the acquisition of a wider analytical vocabulary.

【Course Contents】

This course will provide an introduction to modern British poetry, and focus in particular on the work of the Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas. Textual study of this major twentieth century British figure will enable students to become familiar with Thomas’s most famous poems, with their celebrated surrealist imagery, and his radio drama masterpiece - Under Milk Wood (1954).
