The objectives of this course are [1] to introduce a selection of important nuclear disaster works written by British writers between the early 20th century and the early 21st centuries, and [2] to acquaint students with methods of analysing English prose texts by reading them in terms of various nuclear-related issues.
This course introduces nuclear disaster works (novels and essays) written by British writers between the early 20th and the early 21st centuries, in chronological order. The course will also focus on how events such as radioactive materials, nuclear war and nuclear accidents are represented in the works. Some of the American and Japanese nuclear disaster novels of the same period will also be mentioned.

本授業の目的は、20世紀初頭から21世紀初頭にかけてイギリスの作家たちが書いてきた核ディザスター作品の重要なものを選んで紹介し、核に関わる様々な論点から読み解くことで、英語散文テクストの分析方法を実践的に学ぶことである。
The objectives of this course are [1] to introduce a selection of important nuclear disaster works written by British writers between the early 20th century and the early 21st centuries, and [2] to acquaint students with methods of analysing English prose texts by reading them in terms of various nuclear-related issues.
20世紀初頭から21世紀初頭にかけてイギリスの作家たちが書いた核ディザスター作品（小説やエッセイ）を年代順に取り上げて紹介する。さらに、作品中で放射性物質、核戦争、原発事故といった事象がどのように主題化しているのかについて注目しつつ、イギリス小説の読み方を学ぶ。なお、これらの作品と同時代のアメリカや日本の核ディザスター作品にも言及する。
