This course aims to support students to deepen understanding of representative theories in postcolonial studies and the literary texts and critical theories closely associated with them, broaden their own interests, and cultivate their ability to engage in independent learning and critical reflection.
This course will cover as wide a range as possible of literary and critical theories related to or derived from postcolonial studies, building upon an understanding of its fundamental debates. While the starting point will be understanding the arguments of critics and thinkers such as Edward Said and G. C. Spivak, we also intend to reference as many other significant scholars and activists as possible. The focus will be particularly on issues developed and derived from postcolonial studies, such as the relationship between postcolonial criticism and environmentalist criticism (ecocriticism), its relationship with feminism, and its relationship with leftist critical theory. Furthermore, we intend to examine not only academic debates but also individual forms of activism, and to consider the relationship between literature and society.
The course is basically conducted in a lecture format, but discussion opportunities will be provided wherever possible to encourage active participation. At the end of each week's class, students are asked to complete and submit a response paper, which will be commented on in the following week's class.

本授業では、ポストコロニアル研究の代表的な理論とそれと密接に関連する文学テクストおよび批評理論について理解を深め、関心を広げ、自ら学び考察していく力を醸成することを目的とします。

本授業では、ポストコロニアル研究の基礎的な議論を理解したうえで、それに関連するあるいは派生するいくつかの文学・批評理論についてできるだけ幅広く言及し、受講生の関心を広げることに努めます。エドワード・サイードやG. C. スピヴァクといった批評家あるいは思想家の議論を理解するところが出発点となりますが、それ以外の重要な研究者やアクティヴィストにもできるだけ多く言及する予定です。とりわけ、ポストコロニアル批評と環境主義批評（エコクリティシズム）の関係、フェミニズムとの関係、左派批評理論との関係など、派生的な内容が中心となります。また、アカデミックな議論だけではなく、個別的なアクティヴィズムにも触れ、文学と社会の関係についても考察をしていくつもりです
本授業は基本的に講義形式で行われますが、可能な限りディスカッションの機会を設け、能動的な参加ができるようにします。毎週の授業の最後にはレスポンスペーパーに記入・提出してもらい、それについて翌週の授業でコメントをします。また、折に触れて内容確認テストを行うこともあります。
