By learning about the place-names and personal names in English-speaking countries, students will develop an understanding of various changes that English has experienced throughout its history.
By looking at the place-names and personal names in English-speaking countries in relation to their linguistic characteristics and topographical distributions, students will learn about the history of the English language through the lens of the society and culture of the places. Students are also expected to consider the significance of the place-names and personal names in the study of the history of the English language.

英語圏（主にブリテン島）の地名や人名の学習を通して、歴史の中で英語が経験してきた語彙、発音、文法等の変化について理解する。
By learning about the place-names and personal names in English-speaking countries, students will develop an understanding of various changes that English has experienced throughout its history.
英語圏の地名や人名を扱い、それらの言語的特徴や地理的分布等を分析することで、単に地名・人名の語源的知識や地理的背景を学ぶだけでなく、現代英語の特徴や英語の辿ってきた歴史を英語圏文化との関連から考察していく。
