The aim of this course is to acquire a basic knowledge of the form, subject matter and prosody of modern and contemporary German poetry, to strengthen language skills for reading original poetry, and to deepen understanding of the worldview and aesthetic sense condensed in representative poetic works.
As this is a seminar-style class, each class will be assigned a person in charge and asked to submit a Japanese translation of the poem to be covered in class and to provide a grammatical explanation of the original poem. Based on this, all participants will question the formal, rhetorical and content features of the poem. The instructor will explain the information necessary for understanding the poems.

履修にあたっては、ドイツ語の文法・語彙の確実な基礎知識が求められます。詩というジャンルに関心があることが望ましいですが、純粋に語学的関心から受講する学生も歓迎します（ドイツ語上級者にも、ドイツ語の語感やセンス、比喩表現の理解力などを高めるために役立つ授業です）。また、授業に毎回参加し、質疑に積極的に参加する姿勢も履修にあたって求められる能力と言えます（演習科目なので、11回以上の出席と授業時のプレゼンテーションが単位取得の前提となります）。
プレゼンテーション用にパワーポイントのスライドを作成するソフトが必要です。
この授業では、近現代ドイツ詩の形式・主題・韻律などについての基礎知識を獲得し、原詩を読むための語学力を強化するとともに、代表的詩作品に凝縮された世界観や美意識に対する理解を深めることをめざします。

演習形式の授業なので、毎回担当者を決めて授業で扱う詩の日本語訳を提出してもらい、原詩を文法的に説明してもらいます。それにもとづき参加者全員で詩の形式的・修辞的・内容的特徴について質疑を行います。なお、詩の理解に必要な情報は、教員が説明します。
