Students will deepen understanding about jewish exiles and their relationship with german culture in 20th century.
Students will read "Mein Leben in Deutschland vor und nach 1933", an authobiography written by Karl Löwith during his exile in Japan. The following topics will be discussed: World War and german nationalism, Germans und Jews, exile and transculture.

Students will deepen understanding about jewish exiles and their relationship with german culture in 20th century.
カール・レーヴィットの『ナチズムと私の生活』（1940年）を読む。ナチスによってドイツを追われたユダヤ系の哲学者が日本亡命中に執筆した自伝であるが、第一次世界大戦に出征し、その後の市民的文化の崩壊を体験した一世代のクロニクルでもある。戦争とナショナリズム、ドイツ人とユダヤ人、亡命による移動と異文化との出会いなど、本書のテーマについて議論する。
