Building upon the German language knowledge acquired by the second year, students will develop advanced reading comprehension skills through literary analysis. By reading original texts of works related to Munich, they will deepen their understanding of German literature while examining the unique significance of Munich—a city of art and revolution—within modern German history and culture.
From the late nineteenth century to the first half of the twentieth century, Munich was renowned as a city of 'art' and 'revolution'. This course involves close analysis of literary excerpts by authors associated with this milieu, such as Thomas Mann, Stefan George, Franziska zu Reventlow and Ernst Toller. Furthermore, we will examine various manifestos concerning art and revolution and discuss the historical and cultural transformations of Munich from the late nineteenth century to the era of the rise of Nazism.

2年生までに習得したドイツ語の知識をベースとし、文学作品の読解訓練を行いながら、さらに高度なドイツ語読解能力を身につける。ミュンヘンに関連する文学作品を原文で読み、ドイツ文学への理解を深めるとともに、近代ドイツの歴史と文化において、「芸術」と「革命」の都ミュンヘンがもつ特異な重要性について考える。

19世紀末から20世紀前半にかけて、ミュンヘンは「芸術」と「革命」の都として異彩を放つ。この授業では、このミュンヘンに関わる代表的な作家（Th.マン、S. ゲオルゲ、F. レーヴェントロー、E.トラーなど）の文学作品（抜粋）を精読するとともに、芸術と革命に関わる綱領も検討し、19世紀末からナチズム勃興の時代に至るミュンヘンの歴史と文化の変遷について議論する。
