In this class, students will consider the relationship between society, media and language, especially as a matter of current linguistic variations and varieties. Students will also study them based on Japanese and German examples, by using English texts if necessary. After that, students will acquire techniques to conduct linguistic researches and observations, highlighting various issues concerning communication, cross-cultural communication, focusing also on their sociocultural aspects. At the same time, students will deepen their basic concepts about linguistics, especially Japanese, and German linguistics.
Students will follow the lesson plan to strengthen their knowledge in both languages, especially in their varieties according to generation, age, area and setting. Students will also be engaged in dealing with as many languages and varieties as possible. They will achieve a whole new perspective when observing, analyzing and describing Japanese and German languages. Students will also be guided to see problems of communication. Human relationship and psychology will also be issued in the lecture. Students must participate in classes actively (exchange opinions, discuss, and so on).

普段から言語意識を研ぎ澄ますように心がけましょう。
主に日本語とドイツ語の事例，場合によっては英語その他の事例を参照しながら，社会とメディアと言語の関係，とりわけ現代における言語の変容と多様性の問題点を照らし出します。その後，（異文化）コミュニケーションの諸問題に以降し，その社会文化性にも触れながら言語研究・言語観察の技法を会得することを目標にします。その過程で，言語学・日本語学・ドイツ語学の基本概念の理解を深めます。

以下の授業計画に従って日本語・ドイツ語の現況，とりわけ世代・年齢・地域・使用場面等に応じた多様性を概観し，両言語の知識を定着・深化させます。必要に応じて他にもできるだけ多くの言語・言語変種を参照し，日独語を観察・分析・記述する目を斬新なものにし，相対化することも試みます。言語の問題から徐々により広いコミュニケーションの問題に移行し，人間関係や人間心理の問題性にも言及します。単なる出席を超えた授業への積極的参加（意見交換，ディスカッション等）を求めます。
