This course aims to teach students basic knowledge about the history of German thought.
This course aims to cover a discourse history of mass/crowd from the 19th to the 20th century. The mass phenomenon is closely intertwined with various areas and sectors including literature, thought, film, picture, and politic. Using various essays and works as examples, we will examine how human groups (crowds, masses, public, communities, etc.) have historically been discussed and represented in Europe, with a focus on Germany.

群集論・大衆論の系譜を辿りながら、ドイツさらにはヨーロッパの思想史を概観する。
This course aims to teach students basic knowledge about the history of German thought.
デモや暴動など、「群集」が世界の注目を集めている。
本授業では、群集論という観点から、ドイツさらにはヨーロッパの文学と思想を概観する。群集は社会学や政治学のみならず、哲学、歴史学、心理学等においても重要な研究対象として取り上げられてきた。また文学や絵画、映画等の芸術においても、群集を中心的なテーマに据えた作品は多い。ドイツを中心とするヨーロッパにおいて人間集団（群集、大衆、公衆、共同体など）が歴史的にどのように論じられ、表象されてきたのかを様々な論考や作品を例に検討する。その際には、群集を管理し、コントロールしようとする権力の問題、また人間集団を媒介し、（不）可視化するメディアの問題も併せて考察の対象となるだろう。
