Students will learn early modern academic revolution Paracelsianism in German speaking areas organized by 16th century doctor Paracelsus and his supporters.
The class will be conducted in lecture format. Students will study outline of history from late middle age up to early modern age. Students will receive explanations on natural philosophy, empiricism, medical chemistry and other keywords, as well as intellectual trends such as salvation history, eschatology, alchemy, magic, and Hermeticism to help them understand Paracelsus’s medicine and reform program of Christian belief.

16世紀の医師パラケルススとその支持者たちによる、初期近代ドイツ語圏の学問改革運動「パラケルスス主義運動」を考察する。
Students will learn early modern academic revolution Paracelsianism in German speaking areas organized by 16th century doctor Paracelsus and his supporters.
講義形式で行う。中世末期から初期近代へ至る当時の歴史を概観しつつ、パラケルススたちの医学およびキリスト教信仰の刷新プログラムを理解するために、自然哲学と経験主義、医化学などのキーワード、救済史と終末論、さらに錬金術・魔術・ヘルメス主義といった知的潮流を解説する。
The class will be conducted in lecture format. Students will study outline of history from late middle age up to early modern age.
