Many love stories are about adulterous love. Let's read such works and consider the background.
Many medieval love stories were about adulterous love, and there are many depictions of “unfulfilled love” in opera and ballet. Why does love outside of marriage attract so many people? After considering the relationship with social structure, especially the status system, we will decipher the psychology of the people involved in the literary works. We will also consider what lies behind the desire for love, using keywords such as desire, identity, and sexuality.
There will be a student presentation and a short final report.

恋愛物語の多くは不倫の恋である。そうした作品を読み、背景を考えよう。

中世の恋愛物語の多くは不倫の恋であったし、オペラやバレエでも「叶わぬ恋」がたくさん描かれる。なぜ結婚の外の恋愛がこれほど人を惹きつけるのか。社会構造との関連、とくに身分制度について考えたうえで、文学作品における当事者たちの心理を読み解いていく。また欲望・アイデンティティ・セクシャリティなどのキーワードから、恋愛願望の背景にあるものを考えていこう。
学生発表と、短めの最終レポート提出がある。
