Students will read, think, and understand texts describing film culture in French and acquire ability to translate them into Japanese. Students will read relevant literatures to deepen their knowledge of image culture.
We will be reading texts by Georges Didi-Hubermann. Didi-Hubermann is a world-renowned thinker on image theory who discusses images in general, including painting, film, photography, and so on. We will read his writings with depth and breadth, and while thinking about images, we will consider how to translate his writings into Japanese. In this session, we will be reading the second half of “Sensing Combustible Gas,” which discusses Piero Paolo Pasolini's short film “The Fury (La rabbia)". In the classroom, I will randomly assign students to read aloud and then present their translations. At that time, questions about grammatical matters will be asked and answered. The teacher in charge will then translate and explain the translation.

映像文化をめぐるテクストをフランス語で講読して、考え、理解し、日本語に翻訳する能力を習得する。関連する文献を講読して、映像文化に関する知識を深める。
Students will read, think, and understand texts describing film culture in French and acquire ability to translate them into Japanese. Students will read relevant literatures to deepen their knowledge of image culture.
ジョルジュ・ディディ＝ユベルマンのテクストを講読する。ディディ=ユベルマンは、世界的に知られるイメージ論の思想家であり、絵画、映画、写真･･･といったイメージ全般について、縦横無尽に論じている。深みと広がりを備えた彼の文章を読み、イメージについて考えながら、その文章をいかにして日本語に翻訳するのかを考える。今回は、ピエロ・パオロ・パゾリーニの短編映画『怒り(La rabbia)』について論じた『可燃性ガスを感知すること(Sentir le grisou, Minuit, Paris, 2014)』の後半を講読する。教室では、ランダムに指名して、音読した上で訳文を発表していただく。その際に、文法事項についての質問をしてお答えいただく。その後で、担当教員が翻訳しながら解説を行う。
