This course aims to deepen our understanding of the concept of amour courtois (courtly love), said to have emerged in medieval France, and to examine its relationship with the legend of Tristan, established as literary works in France around the 12th century.
In the former part, we will examine the concept of amour courtois (courtly love) from historical, social and literary perspectives, such as its origin, background, actual situation, development and influence on posterity.
In the latter part, we will focus on the relationship between this concept, and the legend of Tristan, based on which several literary texts ("Le roman de Tristan") were established in France in the 12th century. We will also examine how the concept of amour courtois (courtly love) influenced the process of establishing these texts telling the greatest love story in medieval Europe.

中世フランスにおいて成立したとされる「宮廷風恋愛」という概念について理解を深めつつ、それが12世紀ごろのフランスで文学作品としての体裁を整えていった「トリスタン伝説」といかなる関係にあるのか考察する。
This course aims to deepen our understanding of the concept of amour courtois (courtly love), said to have emerged in medieval France, and to examine its relationship with the legend of Tristan, established as literary works in France around the 12th century.
前半では、20世紀前半あたりから流布されている「恋愛は12世紀の発明である」という歴史家の言葉や、フランス版#MeToo運動の折になされた「宮廷風恋愛」への言及を端緒にしながら、「宮廷風恋愛」という概念について、その成り立ちや背景、実態、展開、後世に及ぼした影響などを、歴史的・社会的・文学的な観点から検証していく。
後半では、ローマ文明とキリスト教以前から存在して、ヨーロッパの基層文化のひとつに数えられるケルトの古い伝承に起源を持つとされる「トリスタン伝説」と、前半で検証した「宮廷風恋愛」の関係に焦点を当てる。12世紀ごろのフランスで、伝説に基づいた文学作品としていくつもの『トリスタン物語』のテクストが成立していく過程において、このヨーロッパ中世最大とも評される恋物語に「宮廷風恋愛」の概念はいかに作用したのか、実際のテクスト(日本語訳)を読みながら考えていく。
