Students will deepen their understanding of The Tale of Genji by transcribing facsimiles of manuscripts written in variant kana, comparing differences in the text between various versions, and comparing commentaries.
In this seminar, students will be assigned a section to work on, transcribe a facsimile of a manuscript written in variant kana, list the differences in the text between the various manuscripts, and create and present a summary that lists notes from commentaries. Students will consider a variety of issues, such as how to derive meaning from a string of hiragana, why copying errors occur, what subtle differences in nuance result from small differences in the text, and how interpretations in commentaries differ.
Students will also be free to choose a theme of their choice regarding issues that arise within their area of responsibility and present their findings in depth.
Students will also be asked to submit comments on other students' summaries. Specifically, students will review the summaries submitted by the presenter in advance, and submit comments such as questions, opinions, and impressions. The presenter will then review these and prepare responses before giving their presentation.

変体仮名で書かれた写本の影印を翻刻したり、諸本における本文の違いを比べたり、注釈書を比べたりしながら、『源氏物語』への理解を深めます。
Students will deepen their understanding of The Tale of Genji by transcribing facsimiles of manuscripts written in variant kana, comparing differences in the text between various versions, and comparing commentaries.
本演習では、分担箇所を決め、変体仮名で書かれた写本の影印を翻刻し、諸本における本文異同を載せ、注釈書の注を並べたレジュメを作って発表してもらいます。平仮名の羅列からどのように意味を読み取っていくのか、どうして誤写が生じるのか、本文のちょっとした違いがどのような微妙なニュアンスの違いを生むのか、注釈書の解釈がどのように違うのかなど、さまざまな問題について考えます。
また、担当範囲から生じる問題について、自由に好きなテーマを設定して、深く追究したことを発表してもらいます。
他の学生のレジュメを見てのコメントも提出してもらいます。具体的には、発表者が事前に提出したレジュメを皆が見て、質問や意見や感想などのコメントを提出し、発表者はそれらを見て皆に対する回答を用意してから発表に臨むという進め方をします。
