Through a close reading of the Kenreimonin Ukyonodaibu-shu, a collection of waka poems by Kenreimonin Ukyonodaibu, a female poet who served Emperor Takakura Chugu Tokuko and interacted with the Heike people, students gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of waka literature and learn how to read, research and study waka poetry.
We will select important passages from "Kenreimonin Ukyonodaibu Shu" and read them carefully. The autumn term focuses on the death and mourning of his lover, Sukemori.First, I will explain the outline of the work and how to research and present it, followed by a presentation and discussion by the instructor. Students will not only translate waka poems, but also analyze the situation of waka poetry, characteristics of expression, problems in interpretation, and its position in the history of waka poetry from various perspectives.

高倉天皇中宮徳子に仕え平家の人々と交流した女流歌人、建礼門院右京大夫の家集『建礼門院右京大夫集』を精読することにより、和歌文学の特質について理解を深めると共に、和歌の読解の方法、調査・研究の方法を学ぶ。

『建礼門院右京大夫集』の重要箇所を選び、精読する。秋学期は、恋人である資盛の死と追悼の場面が中心となる。最初に作品の概要と調査・発表の方法を説明し、その後、担当者による発表と討議を行っていく。和歌を訳すだけではなく、詠歌事情、表現上の特色、解釈上の問題点、詠歌史における位置付けなど多角的な分析に取り組んでもらう。
