Through the reading of Ukiyo-soshi, the goal is to grasp the characteristics of early modern literature, to acquire research methods, and to deepen understanding of the culture and customs of the time.
We will read "Ukiyo Eiga Ichidaiotoko," an Ukiyo Zoshi by Saikaku, published in 1693.This work depicts the sexual customs of the Genroku period, and tells the story of a man who has no luck in love, who obtains a hat that makes him invisible, and travels around the country to witness and experience other people's sexual acts. The presenter will provide explanations of important passages, research sources and the culture and customs of the time, and consider the characteristics of the work. The relationship between the text and other works, such as Saikaku's Ukiyo Zoshi, will also be discussed.

浮世草子の読解を通して、近世文学の特徴を把握し、研究の方法を身につけるとともに、当時の文化や風俗についての理解を深めることが目標です。
Through the reading of Ukiyo-soshi, the goal is to grasp the characteristics of early modern literature, to acquire research methods, and to deepen understanding of the culture and customs of the time.
好色物浮世草子『浮世栄花一代男（うきよえいがいちだいおとこ）』（西鶴作か、元禄６年（１６９３）正月刊）を輪読形式で精読します。本作は、恋とは無縁であった男が、姿が見えなくなる隠れ笠を得て各地の人々の色事を見聞してまわるという筋で、元禄期の性風俗を様々に描いています。授業では毎回発表担当者を決めて発表と質疑を行います。発表者は、重要な箇所に語釈を施し、典拠や当時の文化風俗等の調査を行い、作品の特徴について考察します。西鶴作浮世草子をはじめとする他作品との関係についての検討も必要となります。
