(1) Develop the ability to understand classical Chinese texts through linguistic analysis based on the original text, rather than through kun'yomi readings.
(2) Experience how texts are open to diverse interpretations.
(3) Through the interpretations of the Analects by various thinkers, we examine the connection and/or disconnection between theory and practice.
This seminar approaches the Analects, the most famous of Chinese classics, through the commentaries of two leading early‑modern Japanese thinkers, Itō Jinsai and Ogyū Sorai. Students also consult commentaries by Chinese scholars and thinkers —particularly Zhu Xi— to capture the full range of interpretive possibilities.

漢文の読み方に関しては適時指導するので、前提知識としては求めない。
（１）漢文を訓読ではなく、原文に即した語学的な解析を通して理解する能力を身に付ける。
（２）テクストが多様な解釈に開かれている様に触れる。
（３）思想家たちの『論語』解釈を通して、理論と実践との繋がり／断絶を捉える。

もっとも有名な中国古典である『論語』を、日本近世の二大思想家である伊藤仁斎と荻生徂徠の注釈を通して読みます。必要に応じて中国の学者・思想家の注釈（特に朱熹など）も参照して、幅広い解釈のあり様を捉えていきます。
