The purpose of this course is to learn the characteristics of Japanese language dictionaries, consider the essential elements required for such dictionaries, and become capable of constructing a new (or improved version of an existing) Japanese language dictionary, even if only partially.
In this course, we will meticulously read dictionaries from throughout history and across the globe, cutting-edge research on the Japanese language, and books discussing dictionaries. Through discussion, we will build an ideal dictionary. While fundamentally focusing on “entry creation approach” and “the nature of word definitions,” we will also consider topics such as “how to approach grammar,” “how to indicate collocations,” and “how to provide example sentences.” Depending on the situation, we will also examine Japanese-English dictionaries, foreign dictionaries, and historical Japanese dictionaries. When searching for example sentences, we will also explore various corpora. To explore the nature of dictionaries as systematic repositories of knowledge compiling various phenomena of the Japanese language, we will develop multifaceted skills. Ultimately, we will shape the ideal form of a dictionary (or dictionaries) into reality.

授業中に使えるノートPCがあると、資料の閲覧や例文の検索などで便利です。
国語辞書の特色を学び、国語辞書に必要な要素を考え、新たな（或いは既存のものをブラッシュアップした）国語辞書を部分的にでも構築できるようになること。
The purpose of this course is to learn the characteristics of Japanese language dictionaries, consider the essential elements required for such dictionaries, and become capable of constructing a new (or improved version of an existing) Japanese language dictionary, even if only partially.
古今東西の諸辞書や、日本語に関する最先端の研究、そして辞書について論じた書籍を精読しつつ、討議を通じて理想の辞書を作り上げていきます。基本的には「立項態度」と「語釈の在り方」を中心にしつつ、「文法の捉え方」「コロケーションの示し方」「例文の挙げ方」などについても考えていくことになります。状況に応じて和英辞典や海外の辞書、また日本の歴史的な辞書についても目を向けていきます。また、例文を探る際には各種コーパスを探ることにもなります。日本語の諸事象を体系的にまとめ上げた知の集積体としての辞書の在り様を探るために多角的な能力を身に付け、最終的に理想とすべき辞書の在り方を（一つではなくても）形にしていきます。
