This course examines short and medium-length novels that were nominated for the Akutagawa Prize but did not receive the award between the first half of 2011 and the second half of 2025. Through close reading of these works, students will reflect on pure literature and develop skills in literary analysis. When appropriate, the course also incorporates perspectives from contemporary cultural and literary studies.
The 173rd Akutagawa Prize selection committee meeting for the first half of 2025 concluded with the result of “no winning work,” the first such outcome since the first half of 2011 (the 145th selection). This result became a topic of discussion and sparked various debates. With this background in mind, the seminar asks the question: “What kind of pure literature gets selected?” and invites students to explore this together. Specifically, students will select one rejected work from the above period. Using this work as a central text, they will learn through activities such as work analysis, comparative studies, contemporary research, and structuring report chapters. Nearly all of these activities will be based on the “F Method,” conceived by Professor Emeritus Hidetada Fujii of this university. Details on implementing the method will be explained by the instructor during the second session. Students will then be divided into five groups of multiple members, each responsible for a research presentation. During sessions 4 through 13, each assigned group will present the results of their close reading of a work during even-numbered sessions and conduct comparative analysis with another work or present their contemporary research during odd-numbered sessions. Furthermore, for each research presentation, a different group will serve as the moderator.

作品が決定した後、研究発表の準備を怠りなく進めること。なお第４回以降の授業に備えて、受講者全員が事前に作品を精読して各自の読みや考えを固めること、それを毎回始業以前に「Google Forms」へ記したうえで、演習に臨むことが求められる。

| 本授業は、発表や討論に関する知識や方法の体得を一義とする。ゆえに、一、単位取得のためには研究発表が必須である。なおやむを得ず担当回を欠席した場合は、改めて発表の機会が与えられる。二、７割（１４回のうち１０回）以上の出席をしていない場合、単位修得不可。また３０分を越えて入室する行為はこれを出席と認めない。正当な理由のない途中退出も不可。なお教育実習ほか各種実習による欠席、電車遅延（要証明書）のための遅刻については相談に応じる。弔事もこれに同じ。なお学校感染症による出席停止措置を受けた場合を除き、病欠に対する配慮は難しい。就職活動や部活動による欠席についても対応できない。＊内閣官房令和７年３月２１日発出「２０２６年（令和８）年度卒業・修了予定者等の就職・採用活動に関する要請」参照。 | ||

本授業は受講者に積極的な授業参加を求める。ほぼ全ての回で授業前に「Google Forms」の提出が必要となる。またいわゆる純文学を読んで、面白いと感じることのできる心性の持ち主でないと、完走することが難しい。
ノートPC。どうしても準備できないようならタブレット。前記の通り発表に際してPress-ITという画面共有機器を使用する予定もあるので、スマホだけで当授業に参加することは大きな困難を伴う。
第１回にはガイダンスを行います。研究対象となる作品を選定するほかに、授業のアウトラインを説明するなど、とても重要な回ですので、これへ参加せずに履修の手続きを行い、あとで後悔することのないよう、受講希望者は必ず参加して下さい。
2011年上半期から2025年下半期までのあいだに芥川龍之介賞の候補となり、且つ落選した短・中篇小説を読んで、純文学について考えるとともに、作品を分析する力を養う。必要に応じて、現代文学を対象とした同時代研究を試行する。
This course examines short and medium-length novels that were nominated for the Akutagawa Prize but did not receive the award between the first half of 2011 and the second half of 2025. 2025年上半期の第173回芥川龍之介賞選考会は、2011年上半期（第145回）以来の「該当作なし」という結果で幕を閉じた。この選考結果は話題となり、且つさまざまな議論を呼んだ。当演習は、この経緯を念頭に置いたうえで、〈選ばれる純文学とはどのようなものか〉という疑問を設け、学生の皆さんと考えてみたい。具体的には上記の範囲で落選作品を一つ選び、それを核に、作品分析や比較対照、同時代研究やレポートの章構成作りなどを学修する。なお以上の活動のほぼ全ては、藤井淑禎本学名誉教授創案による「Ｆメソッド」を参照するものである。メソッド運用の詳細は、教員が第２回で説明する。そして受講者は複数名で成る５班に分かれ、研究発表を担う。第４～１３回のうち、各担当班は偶数回に作品を精読した結果を提示し、奇数回に別な作品との比較対照や同時代研究の発表を行うこととする。また各研究発表においては、別の１班が司会を担当する予定である。
