This course will focus on reading several scenes from The Tale of Genji in detail to deepen understanding of the work, while also learning perspectives and methods for interpreting the story.
The Tale of Genji features many different characters, but we will analyze several scenes to see how the role of the "mother" is portrayed.
The class will begin with an overview of The Tale of Genji, and then move on to reading the story with a focus on the depiction of the "mother" in the work. At the same time, students will also touch upon previous works and sources to deepen their understanding of the world of The Tale of Genji.

『源氏物語』のいくつかの場面を取り上げて精読し、作品の理解を深める。あわせて、物語を読み解く視座や方法を学ぶ。
This course will focus on reading several scenes from The Tale of Genji in detail to deepen understanding of the work, while also learning perspectives and methods for interpreting the story.
『源氏物語』には様々な人物が描かれているが、その中で、「母」の存在はどのように描かれているのか、いくつかの場面を取り上げて読み解いていく。
授業では、はじめに『源氏物語』の概説を行い、『源氏物語』に描かれる「母」に焦点をあてて物語を読み進める。同時に、先行する作品や資料にも触れながら、『源氏物語』作品世界への理解を深めていく。
