Students will acquire the basic knowledge and techniques for reading pleasure quarter literature, which forms a large part of the foundation of early modern literature, and by cultivating the application skills to attempt a variety of interpretations, they will develop the ability to accurately read a variety of early modern works.
We will take up Edo-period Sharebon and read them closely, examining the mindset of the "Tsuu" they address. If necessary, we will compare them with the "Sui" of the previous era. By interpreting these works from this perspective, we will deepen our understanding of Edo-period culture.

近世文芸の素地となるものの内で、大きな一部を占める遊里文芸を読解する基礎的な知識と技法を身につけるとともに、多様な読解を試みることのできる応用能力を養うことで、近世の多様な作品を的確に読みこなす能力を養成する。

江戸洒落本を採り上げ、そこで扱われる「通」の意識を検討しつつ精読する。必要であれば前時代の「粋」との比較を行う。諸作品をこの視点から読み解くことによって、江戸時代の文化に対する理解を深める。
