Through the study of Kagawa Kageki's poetry theory and the poems he composed in the early modern Edo period, we will understand the relationship between the state of early modern waka poetry, his academic practices, and his thought. Through appreciation of waka poems, students will also learn how to read waka poems themselves.
The study and thought of Kagawa Kageki, who established a school of waka poetry in the early modern Edo period, will be reviewed. Then, the overall picture of the history of early modern poetry will also be overviewed. After reviewing basic waka rhetorical techniques and grammatical matters of ancient Japanese literature, students will appreciate poems composed by Kagawa Kageki.

近世江戸時代の香川景樹の歌論と彼が詠んだ歌を鑑賞することで、近世和歌のありようとその中で生まれた学問的実践、およびその思想との連関を理解する。また和歌の鑑賞をする中で、和歌そのものの読み方も身に付ける。
Through the study of Kagawa Kageki's poetry theory and the poems he composed in the early modern Edo period, we will understand the relationship between the state of early modern waka poetry, his academic practices, and his thought. 近世江戸時代に和歌の一派を築いた香川景樹の学問と思想を概観する。その後、近世詩歌史の全体像も概観する。基本的な和歌の修辞技法と古文の文法事項を確認した上で、香川景樹の詠んだ歌を鑑賞していく。
The study and thought of Kagawa Kageki, who established a school of waka poetry in the early modern Edo period, will be reviewed. Then, the overall picture of the history of early modern poetry will also be overviewed.
