While reading classical stories about Japanese kami, we will focus on the many “chūshaku” (notes, commentaries, and interpretations) that developed later, searching for new ways of approaching myths.
Myths and “Chūshaku”
Myths were born of humanity's basic need to understand the surrounding world. In Japan the classical myths compiled in Kojiki and Nihon shoki are well known. However, myths are not stable. How they are read changes with the times, and this mutability seems to be an intrinsic part of their nature. In this lecture course, we will consider various kami that are described in Kojiki and Nihon shoki. While analyzing these descriptions, we will read and explore the “chūshaku” (notes, commentaries, and interpretations) of later generations to see the many dynamic ways that they transformed.

PC（課題提出に必要）
・単位を修得するには、次の3つの条件を満たす必要がある。①全14回中10回以上の出席、②授業後のリアクションペーパー（400字以上）の提出、③最終レポート（4000字以上）の提出。
・授業開始後に遅れて履修登録する場合でも、全14回中10回以上の出席という条件は同じ。未登録だからといって第一回の授業に出なければ、欠席扱いとなるので注意すること。
・出欠に関しては、教室に来て講義を受け、その後にリアクションペーパーを提出してはじめて出席したことになる。どちらか一方だけでは欠席扱いになるので注意すること。
・詳しい授業の進め方については、初回の授業時に説明する。
・授業に関する情報はCanvas LMSにも掲載するので、受講前に確認すること。
古代の神々の物語を読解しながら、あわせて後の時代に展開された多様な〈注釈〉に注目することで、神話に対する新たな見方を探る。

テーマ「神話と〈注釈〉」
神話は、自らを取り巻く世界を説明する原理として人間が生み出したものである。日本においては、『古事記』や『日本書紀』に収められた古代の神話がよく知られている。しかし、神話とは、決して固定化されたものではなく、時代の変化の中で読み替えられ、様々に変容していくという性質をもっている。本講義では、『古事記』『日本書紀』に描かれた神々を取り上げ、その諸相を分析するとともに、後世の〈注釈〉をたどることで、ダイナミックに変貌を遂げる神話を多面的に読み解いていく。
