【Course Objectives】

The aim is to overview the world of classical waka poetry through the window of love poetry, and to deepen understanding of various issues surrounding waka literature, such as rhetorical techniques and other rules unique to waka poetry, expressive methods such as "daiei" and "honka-dori", and the process of establishing waka poetry books.

【Course Contents】

Various love poems will be discussed, including actual love poems exchanged between lovers, fictional love poems and love poems in women's diaries. Also, through reading love poems, students will learn about the nature of "daiei" (poetry composed on a theme).
