Students will be able to appreciate various literary works from the mid to late Edo period that focus on 'humor' as their theme and explain their characteristics.
Among the diverse literary genres that emerged during the Edo period, we will focus on works that center particularly on 'laughter,' such as hanashibon (storybooks), comical books, and kibyōshi (illustrated yellow-covered books). We will read and interpret these works with an awareness of the contemporary perspective, considering what people of that time found amusing and how they laughed. Additionally, we will deepen our understanding of the language, customs, and culture depicted in these works.

江戸時代中～後期に生まれた「笑い」を主題とする多様な文学作品を味わい、その特質について説明できる。
Students will be able to appreciate various literary works from the mid to late Edo period that focus on 'humor' as their theme and explain their characteristics.
江戸時代に誕生した多彩な文芸ジャンルの中でも、噺本（はなしぼん）・滑稽本・黄表紙といった、特に「笑い」を主題とするさまざまな作品を取り上げ、同時代人の視点を意識して読み解き、当時の人々が「何をいかに笑っていたか」について考えていきます。また、作品に描かれている言葉や風俗、文化についても理解を深めます。
