【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

本講義は日本語史の中でも特に漢字漢語の歴史について講じるものである。
　中国で生まれた漢字は日本語と邂逅し、日本文化に大きな影響を及ぼした。字形・字音・字義は日本独自に発達した面も少なくない。古代における漢字の受容、漢文・漢語の定着と万葉仮名の展開、中世の漢字・漢文の和化、和漢混淆文と字音の独自変化、江戸時代の漢学・漢字文化の隆盛、そして近代以降の漢字簡素化・字形整理といった内容で、より深い日本の漢字文化を理解していただくことを目標とする。
　日本における漢字の歴史を言語の側面のみならず、文化・社会などさまざまな分野を総体として漢字とつきあってきたことに留意しながら、人を中心に据えて、漢字との歴史的なかかわりを大きな流れとして見ていくことにする。

This lecture will focus on the history of the Japanese language, with a particular focus on the history of kanji and Chinese characters.
Chinese characters originated in China and encountered the Japanese language, having a major impact on Japanese culture. Many aspects of character shape, pronunciation, and meaning developed uniquely in Japan. The goal is to provide a deeper understanding of Japan's kanji culture through topics such as the adoption of kanji in ancient times, the establishment of classical Chinese and Chinese words and the development of Man'yōgana, the Japanese adaptation of kanji and classical Chinese in the Middle Ages, mixed Japanese-Chinese writing and the unique changes in pronunciation, the rise of Sinology and kanji culture in the Edo period, and the simplification and reorganization of kanji since the modern era.
The history of kanji in Japan will be viewed not only from the perspective of language, but also from a people-centered perspective, while keeping in mind that kanji have been used in a variety of fields, including culture and society, and the overall flow of history.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

　それぞれの時代の特徴的な事項を取り上げて、それぞれの時代の人々のエピソードを交えながら、日本人は漢字とどのように接してきたのか、漢字・漢文が日本語・日本人・日本の文化及び社会にどのような影響を与えてきたのか、できるだけ広い観点から解明していく。

By taking up the characteristic matters of each era and incorporating the episode of the people of each era, we will elucidate from as broad a perspective as possible how Japan people have interacted with Chinese characters, and how they have influenced the culture and society of Japanese, Japan, and Japan.

江戸時代の歴史や漢詩文に関する内容が多いので、事前にそのあたりの予備知識を予習しておいたほうがよい。

The lecture contains a lot of content related to the history of the Edo period and Chinese poetry and prose, so it is a good idea to study the subject in advance.
