This course will take up a disordered variety of literature produced from the Muromachi Period to the transitionary period between Japan’s Middle Age and the Early Modern Period, and perform analytical deep readings from various perspectives. Through this, a deeper understanding of the properties of later Middle Age literature and the environment which produced it will be fostered.
Otogi-zōshi and Oral literature, such as Kōwakamai, as well as collections of tales from the Warring States period will be taken as an introduction, and the development of literature from the later Middle Age to the earliest period of the Modern Period will be introduced through analysis of the characteristic components of each work, all while considering pervious works and the relationship to other contemporary works of literature. Also, a focus on the mentality of the readership which supported this development will be pursued.

室町・戦国期の文学を読むための基礎力を身につけるために，各自で関連作品や参考文献を幅広く読み進め，レポート執筆につなげること．履修を機に，渋川版『御伽草子』、『舞の本』などを通読することをすすめる．
上記以外については，業内で指示する．各回の予習・復習には計4時間程度を要する．

諸連絡，レポートの提出等の際にCanvas LMSを利用する予定．
室町期から中世近世移行期にかけてうみだされたさまざまな文芸を取りあげ，いくつかの視点を設定することで分析的に精読する．それによって，中世後期の文学の特質とそれを育んだ環境についての理解を深める．

お伽草子，幸若舞曲などの語り物文芸，戦国期の話題を扱う逸話集などを考察の入り口としてとりあげる．各作品を特徴づける諸要素に注目し，先行作品や同時代文芸との関わりなどに注意しながら，中世後期から近世初期における文芸の展開について紹介していく．また，そうした動きを支えた物語享受者たちの心性にも光を当てる．
