In this class, students will consider what waka poetry is and deepen their understanding of literary history by reading waka poetry, primarily from the Heian and Kamakura periods, including the Kokin Wakashū.
The Kokin Waka Shu is the first imperial anthology of waka poetry in history. It is a condensation of the characteristics of waka poetry and a source of literature for later generations.
In this class, students will understand the history of waka poetry and literature, beginning with a discussion of the Kokin Waka Shu.

事前に毎回の授業の内容に関わることがらについて関心を深めておくこと（各回約1時間30分）。授業後には、配付したプリントを熟読し、紹介した参考文献等を参照すること（各回約2時間30分）。

現代語訳や注釈のない和歌や古典文学の文章を、自分で読解することに意欲と関心があること。
『古今和歌集』をはじめとする、平安鎌倉期を中心とする古典和歌を読み解くことを手がかりとして、和歌とはいかなるものかを考えるとともに、和歌史・文学史について理解を深める。

史上はじめての勅撰和歌集である『古今和歌集』は、和歌のエッセンスが凝縮されたものであるとともに、後世の和歌および諸文学を生み出す発想の源泉となった〈古典〉である。本授業では、『古今和歌集』を起点として、平安期から鎌倉室町期をとりあげながら、和歌・和歌史・文学史を具体的に見渡してゆく。
