(1) Understand the unique position of the early modern period within the study of ancient literature.
(2) Grasp the various aspects of literary attitudes toward poetry.
(3) Situate Kokugaku within the broader currents of literary and intellectual history.
This study examines research on Japan's ancient texts during the early modern period from the broad perspectives of waka poetry history and intellectual history.
Specifically, it traces the study of ancient texts through Kokugaku within the lineage of Keichū, Kamo no mabuchi, and Motoori Norinaga.
We will deepen our understanding of how Keichū and Kamo no mabuchi's research on the Man'yōshū was inherited by Motoori Norinaga's research on the Kojiki, and what the intellectual positions held by each scholar and thinker were within this process.

近世における日本の上代文献に関する研究を、広く和歌史・思想史という視野から把握します。
具体的には国学による上代文献の研究を、契沖・賀茂真淵・本居宣長の流れの中で把握していきます。
契沖・賀茂真淵の『万葉集』研究が、本居宣長の『古事記』研究にどのように引き継がれていったのか、その中で、それぞれの学者・思想家が持つ思想的立場はいかなるものかについて理解を深めていきます。
