You learn how ninja figures thought to be factual were influenced by works of fiction, and develop the ability to discern historical facts based on primary and influential secondary historical sources.
When a particular ninja work becomes famous, new ninja works are created based on it, and through the accumulation of these new works, you learn the image of the ninja is formed.
Through reading materials on literature, drama, performing arts, and paintings from the Edo period, you learn about the characteristics of ninja and ninjutsu, which are representative of Japanese culture. The images we have of ninja today, such as black-cloth, black-masked ninja throwing shurikens and performing supernatural arts by making seals, were created through literature and theater. This image of the ninja is constantly being updated with the appearance of new ninja works. In this lecture, I clarify the formation and transition of the ninja image by tracing the specific ninja works of the Edo period, in which the basic elements of the ninja image were formed.

日本古典文法の知識
3回まではスライドを使いますが、4回以降はテキストをもとに板書しながら授業を進めていきます。注釈のない古文をたくさん読みますのでご了解ください。
事実だと思われていた忍者の姿がフィクションの作品の影響をいかに受けているかを知り、一次史料や有力な二次史料をもとに歴史的事実を見分ける力を養います。
ある忍者作品が有名になるとそれを元に新たな忍者作品が作られ、それが積み重なることによって忍者像が形成されていきますが、後発の作品が先行する作品をいかに取り込み翻案しているか、それを見分ける力を養います。

江戸時代の文芸・演劇・芸能・絵画資料の読解を通じて、日本文化を代表する忍者と忍術についてその特徴を学びます。私たちが現在イメージするような忍者、たとえば黒装束黒覆面で手裏剣を投げたり、印を結んで超自然的な術をおこしたりする忍者像は、文芸・演劇などの中で作られていったものです。こうした忍者像は新しい忍者作品が登場することで日々更新されています。本講義では忍者像の基礎的な部分が形作られた江戸時代の忍者作品を具体的に辿ることで、忍者像の形成と変遷を明らかにしていきます。
