In this course, students will read and understand each of the ukiyozoshi ghost stories published in the early to mid-modern period from various perspectives in order to understand the characteristics of each story and to acquire knowledge of life, society, and culture in the Edo period.
This section focuses mainly on ukiyo zoshi (ghost stories) published from the early to mid-modern period, as well as works belonging to the family of ghost stories.
Since the same tales are used repeatedly in slightly different forms, we will organize them and check their influence on contemporary and later works. We will attempt to highlight the essence of the tales from various angles.

授業計画には主に取り上げる作品名を記していますが、先行・後続作品との比較をするため、複数の作品を取り上げていく予定です。また、授業の状況によっては、授業の計画が前後する場合もあります。
本講義では、近世初期から中期にかけて刊行された怪談物浮世草子の各作品をさまざまな視点から読解し、それぞれの特徴を理解するとともに、あわせて江戸時代の生活・社会・文化などの知識も身につけることを目標とする。

近世初期から中期にかけて刊行された怪談物浮世草子や、怪異小説の系列に属する作品を主に取り上げる。
同じ話柄が少しずつ形を変え、繰り返し用いられているため、整理をし、同時代作品や後続作品への影響を確認する。多角的に怪異譚の本質を浮かび上がらせることを試みる。
