We will discuss the relationship between literary works and travel, also between authors and travel. This course is interested in how the spatial setting and spatial movement in the work relates to the development of the work and the value of the work, and how the writer's thoughts and attachments to a
unique place are connected to the motivation and process of creating the work. We hope that students will gain a new perspective on the rich appreciation and criticism of literary works by being exposed to the activity of creating works through the setting and composition of places and spaces. I want you to experience the history of how the travel experiences of writers have created works of art and how countless places have been created by written works.
Points to be addressed throughout the lectures are as follows.
1 Relationship between the travel depicted in a literary work and the motive for its creation, and also between the travel and the value of the work.
2 The range of effects that a literary narrative about a place has on a work of art or real space.
3 Charm of literary space created by the author's love for it.

文学作品および作家と「旅」との関わりについて議論する。作中の空間設定・空間移動は、作品の展開や価値とどのように関わるのか、また、書き手の、固有の場所への思いや執着は、作品創造の動機やプロセスとどのように結びついているのか、といった点について考える。受講生には、場所や空間の設定・構成を通じた作品生成の営為に触れることによって、文学作品を豊かに鑑賞・批評する新たな視点を獲得してほしい。加えて、書き手の「旅」の体験、また特定の場所に注ぐ多様な愛が、作品を生み出す大きな原動力となってきた側面と、むしろ書かれた作品こそが、愛される無数の「場所」を生み出してきたという史的事実に触れてもらいたい。
