By reading (mainly) modern and contemporary novels from the perspective of place and locality, we will examine what kind of interpretations and appreciation are possible, and deepen our understanding of the works.
The three elements of a novel are form, expression, and content (Hidetada Fujii, Professor Emeritus of this university). Place and locality are related to the content (the effect of being set there). In our daily lives, do we pay any attention to the kind of place in which a novel is developed? Or perhaps we are even interested in the locality itself. This class will focus on works set in a specific place and locality.We will consider the interpretation and appreciation that is possible through the inclusion of specific information and deepen the understanding of the works. Please note that the content of this class is subject to modification.

特に指示された場合は予めテキストを読み、コメントを「Google Forms」で入力しておくこと。授業のなかで紹介した参考資料を読む・視聴すること。ほか舞台探訪を積極的に計画・実行することも奨める。

本授業は受講者に積極的な授業参加を求める。ほぼ全ての回で授業前に「Google Forms」の提出が必要となる。また授業内で教員により、受講者自身の作品解釈を求められた場合、これに取り組まなければならない。なおこの授業で切実に求められるものは、いわゆる純文学を読んで、面白いと感じることのできる心性だ。単位取得だけを目的として履修を試みると、大変に詰まらない時間を過ごすことになるだろう。
ノートＰＣ。ないしはタブレット。どちらも用意できない場合、授業前にＰＤＦファイルをプリントアウトする準備をしておくこと。スマートフォンだけで当授業に参加した場合、困難を伴う恐れがあるから、注意されたい。
第１回はガイダンスを行う回です。授業のアウトラインを説明する、とても重要な回ですので、これへ参加せずに履修の手続きを行い、あとで後悔することのないよう、必ず参加して下さい。
近現代日本の（主に）小説を〈場所〉や〈土地〉という観点から読むことで、どのような解釈や鑑賞が可能となるか検討し、かつ作品の理解を深める。

小説の三要素に形式・表現・内容がある（本学名誉教授藤井淑禎）。場所や土地は、このうち内容に関わるものだ（そこに設定されたことで得られる効果）。私たちは日常、小説がどのような場所で展開されているか、何となく気にしていないだろうか。あるいは土地そのものに興味を抱くこともあるはずだ。本授業は特定の場所や土地を舞台とする作品を取り上げる。かつその具体的な情報を含めることで可能になる解釈と鑑賞について考察を行い、作品理解を深めてゆく。なお授業の内容は修正することがあるから、注意して頂きたい。
