The purpose of this course is to understand the history of kanji and kanbun (texts written in kanji) in the Japanese language. This course will examine how kanbun and hentai-kanbun (Japanized kanbun) were used in Japan from ancient times to the early modern period. The aim of this course is to deepen students' understanding of the historical development of kanbun written in Japan, and to cultivate their ability to read and understand kanbun materials.
This course provides an overview of the history of kanbun written in Japan among the writing systems of the Japanese language. We will understand the characteristics of kanbun as found in inscriptions on stone monuments and in the Kojiki and the Nihon Shoki. We will learn the basics of kunten materials in order to know how kanbun texts were read and interpreted in the Heian period. Besides, we will discover the characteristics of hentai-kanbun by reading actual examples from old diaries and documents, and understand the structure of sorobun, which is the last stage of hentai-kanbun. Students will be asked to practice reading the materials introduced in class.

春学期開講の文学講義３３７（AT337）で述べることを前提として講ずる部分がある。
本講義は、日本語における漢字・漢文の歴史について理解することを目的とする。古代から近世にかけて、漢文系書記言語（漢文・変体漢文）が日本においてどのように用いられていたのかについて考察する。日本漢字文の歴史的変遷に対する理解を深めることと、漢字文資料の読解力を培うことを本講義の目標とする。

本講義では、日本語の表記体のうち、主として漢字文の歴史を概観する。石碑などに刻まれた銘文や『古事記』『日本書紀』に見られる漢文の特徴について理解する。平安時代において漢文訓読がどのように行われていたのかを知るために訓点資料の基礎を学ぶ。古記録や古文書の実例を読むことで変体漢文の特徴を把握する。変体漢文の終着点である候文についても読解を通してその構造を理解する。また、授業で紹介された資料の読解練習をしてもらうことも予定している。
