【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

このゼミでは、「ケアの倫理（care ethics）」という概念の起源と意味を検討する。とりわけ、ジョアン・トロントがそれを政治哲学および政治においてどのように論じているかを分析する。
この授業の目的は、以下のようになります。原文をじっくり読んだ後で、
1）原文ではどのような視点から身体を分析しているのか？本書で使われている理論の枠組みを理解すること。
2）本書で言及されている諸概念が持つ意味、言及されている人物を理解すること。
3）ケアの倫理をめぐる学術的議論に親しむこと。

In this seminar, we will examine the concept of “care ethics”, its origin, and meaning. In particular, we will analyze how Joan Tronto discusses it in relation to political philosophy and politics.
The objectives of this class are as follows:
1) To understand the book’s framework and the author’s perspective
2) To understand the meanings of the various concepts appearing in the book and the philosophers and scholars that the author mentions.
3) To be familiar with the scholarly discussions regarding the ethics of care.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

本セミナーでは、ジョアン・C・トロントの思想を中心に、政治文脈における「ケアの倫理」を議論する。まず、トロントの著書『モラル・バウンダリーズ―ケアの倫理のための政治的議論』（1993年）から選択した箇所を読み、ケアを社会的・政治的実践として捉えるトロントの議論に焦点を当てる。ケアが民主主義的制度にどのように挑戦するのかを理解するために必要な理論的基盤を提供する。その基盤を踏まえ、次に『ケアする民主主義―市場・平等・正義』（2013年）を取り上げ、ケアに基づくインクルーシブな民主主義に関する議論を検討する。演習ではケアの意味とは何か、またケアの実践が政治制度、民主的参加、相互依存をいかに形成するか、そしてケアを通じて民主主義を再考することが現代社会における責任、権力、正義について新たな問いを提起するかを考察する。
授業の前半はテクストの要約によって、理解を確認する。後半は皆が毎週提出するコメントペーパーをもとに、参加者間でのディスカッションを中心に進める。哲学的な概念を理解し、問いを立てるための基礎的なトレーニングも実践する。

This seminar introduces the ethics of care within the political context, focusing on the work of Joan C. Tronto. We will begin by reading selected chapters from Moral Boundaries: A Political Argument for an Ethic of Care (1993), concentrating on Tronto’s conceptualization of care as a social and political practice. These readings will provide the theoretical foundations necessary to understand how care challenges our democratic institutions. Building on this foundation, will then turn to Caring Democracy: Markets, Equality, and Justice (2013), in which Tronto discusses an inclusive democracy grounded in care. Students will examine the meaning of care, how practices of care shape political institutions, democratic participation, and interdependence, and how rethinking democracy through care raises new questions about responsibility, power, and justice in contemporary societies.
The first half of the class will focus on summarizing the text and understanding it. The second half will focus on discussion based on students’ reaction papers to be submitted every week.
The class will also provide basic training for understanding philosophical concepts and formulating questions.
(Everyone should also give a presentation. More details will be explained during the first guidance session.)

予習：参加者は全員、事前に次回のテクストを読んでコメントペーパーを作成する（コメントペーパーの提出は毎週の火曜日の夜）。
報告も求める。報告の進め方について、初回のガイダンスの際、説明する。
参加を求める。積極的に議論に参加すること。
出席：4回以上の欠席を認めません。
