In recent yeas, the lively discussion about "degrowth" which criticizes the growth-oriented system of capitalism is rising under the serious ecological crisis. The essence of their argument is that we need to revise the system of capitalism and consumer society fundamentally. In this seminar, after we will read Jason Hickel's "Less is More" and Masakazu Yamazaki's "The Birth of Soft Individualism" in order to understand theoretical framework about degrowth and consumer society, we will carry out basic training on how to write a critique.
We will read Hickel and Yamazaki's books analytically and provide training on writing a discussion.

近年、環境危機を背景として、資本主義の成長志向のシステムを批判する「脱成長」論が活気づいている。その議論が主張するのは、われわれは資本主義および消費社会のシステムを根本から修正する必要があるということだ。この演習ではジェイソン・ヒッケルの『資本主義の次に来る世界』および山崎正和の『柔らかい個人主義の誕生』を精読し、脱成長論や消費社会論について理論的な枠組みを了解する。その後、自分で批評文を書くための基本的なトレーニングをおこなう。
