Digital technologies, including generative AI, smartphone, and SNS, have now become the essential theme for the humanities in 21st century. In this seminar, we will plan to discuss with critical essays which dealt with media aesthetics by covering works by Walter Benjamin, Marshall McLuhan, and Lev Manovich, after reading Ryota Fukushima's "The Medium is the Human".
There will be a whole-class discussion after the designated student’s presentation. Each time the designated student will be set an assignment and based on this task they will write a summary report.

生成AI、スマートフォン、SNSのようなデジタル技術は、今や２１世紀の人文学にとって本質的なテーマとなった。この演習では福嶋亮大の『メディアは人間である』を読んだ後、ヴァルター・ベンヤミン、マーシャル・マクルーハン、レフ・マノヴィッチらのメディア美学に関わる評論を読んで討議し、あわせて批評文の執筆に習熟することをめざす。
