21世紀、グローバルに私たちの住む世界を覆うカルチャーの大きな流れの一つは、1970年代のニューヨークをルーツに持つヒップホップから発展したものである。他人の音楽をプレイするDJ、歌ではなくリズミカルなお喋りのラップなど、短命な若者向けの流行だと思われていたヒップホップがいかなる政治的、経済的、文化的利害と結びついていたのか、なぜローカルな文化と経験を超えたのか。この授業では、音楽、映像、文学のみならず、ファッション、デザイン、アートとその領域を拡げていくストリートの内と外での文化表現の特性を学び理解を深めていきたい。 |

We will try to explore and understand from what political, social, and technical conditions and relationships between sender and receiver the culture of hip-hop, which tends to be stereotyped and termed as so-called popular culture/popular music, was born and is enjoyed and consumed in the USA and the rest of the world, especially in Japan. Some of the texts used will be in English, and students will require English skills up to the compulsory education level.
In watching moving images and sonic reference materials in the classroom while referring to Trisha Rose's ``Black Noise'', which is the main teaching material used, explore and examine the various relationships of dynamics of social, political, and aesthetic issues that are happening inside and outside the classroom from the era of Civil Rights Movement in the USA to so-called the time of Neo-Liberalism.

ポピュラーカルチャーという紋切り型で形容されがちなヒップホップという文化が、実際にはどのような政治的／社会的／技術的な条件や、送り手と受け手の関係のありようのなかで生まれていき、享受・消費されているかを探り、理解するようにつとめる。使用するテキストは英語のものもあり、義務教育程度の英語の力を要する。
