The goals of this course are to
・understand the specifics of the various schools of thought that fall within the framework of “Eastern philosophy”, while referring to the original sources,
・gain a perspective to consider on one's own what new possibilities for thought can be found in so-called “Eastern philosophy”.
The Classic of Filiality (Xiaojing) centers on “filial piety (xiao),” a core tenet of Confucianism, and is remarkably concise. Consequently, it became widely adopted as a text for introductory education and recitation, exerting a profound influence. Since Confucius' disciple Zeng Shen (Zengzi) appears in the text, scholars have identified connections with the ten chapters of the Zengzi, a work of the Zengzi school. This lecture will examine the characteristics of the concept of filial piety by reading the texts of the Classic of Filiality and the Zengzi, and consider its contemporary significance. Additionally, drawing on commentaries on the Classic of Filiality from both China and Japan, we will explore what variations in thought have emerged, or could potentially emerge, from essentially the same text.

この授業の到達目標は以下のとおり。
・「東洋哲学」という枠組みに括られる諸思想について、原典資料を参照しながら、具体的な内容を理解すること。
・いわゆる「東洋哲学」からどのような新たな思考の可能性が見出せるか、自力で考察する視座を得ること。

『孝経』は儒教の根幹をなす「孝」を主題としており、たいへん短い。そのため、入門教育や読誦のためのテキストとして広く普及し、大きな影響を及ぼした。本文中に孔子の弟子、曾参（曾子）が登場することから、研究者らは曾子学派の文献『曾子』十篇との関連を見出している。この講義では『孝経』と『曾子』の本文を読みながら「孝」思想の特質を確認し、その現代的意義について検討する。合わせて、中国および日本での『孝経』注釈に即して、ほぼ同一の本文からどのような思想のバリエーションが生み出されてきたのか、あるいは生み出され得るのかを考える。
The Classic of Filiality (Xiaojing) centers on “filial piety (xiao),” a core tenet of Confucianism, and is remarkably concise.
