【Course Objectives】

(1) To understand what issues are currently being discussed in philosophy
(2) To understand the various fields of contemporary philosophy from a cross-sectional perspective
(3) To be able to develop philosophical reflection based on one's own interests in the context of these issues.

【Course Contents】

This course is an omnibus course with a guest lecturer each time. Therefore, the content of each session will be different.
We invite especially young and mid-career researchers in a wide range of fields in philosophy, ethics, gender theory, and political thought.
The content of each class is different, but rather than a systematic lecture of each field or an explanation of each lecturer's area of expertise, we plan to focus on "what issues are currently being discussed in philosophy" or "what is interesting about studying philosophy nowadays".

After the guest lecturer's talk (about 60 minutes), we will have a question-and-answer period (about 30 minutes) with students' comments.

Specific topics will be as following (a detailed schedule will be provided at the first guidance session)
Philosophy: Existential thought - Nietzsche and Kierkegaard / Contemporary thought- Foucault and Deleuze / Analytic philosophy - Wittgenstein / Feminist phenomenology and gender thought / Philosophy of psychopathology
Ethics: Climate change and environmental ethics / COVID-19 and bioethics / Drones and the ethics of war
Political thought: Hannah Arendt and the Palestinian Question
