Notes

【Course Objectives】

Although not a formal requirement, it is strongly recommended that students first take the course "Introduction to Strategic Management,"(BT175) or an overseas equivalent (for exchange students), before taking this one. Nonetheless, the course features material which does not depend on knowing the material from the Intro course, so it is open to all. This course goes into a deeper understanding of Strategy. This course explores corporate-level strategy, focusing on how firms grow through vertical integration, diversification, and strategic alliances. Students will analyze the complexities of competing in international markets using global expansion frameworks while learning to design organizational structures and governance systems that ensure ethical implementation.

【Course Contents】

The course focuses on corporate-level strategy and the complexities of scaling a business across industries and borders. Students examine the trade-offs of vertical integration, diversification, and strategic partnerships, alongside the specific challenges of global expansion and international competition. The course concludes by addressing the critical pillars of implementation, including organizational design, corporate governance, and the ethical considerations of modern business models.
